Synopsis

During our Justice research workshop, we uncovered that people have greater empathy and understanding when they experience injustice directly (rather than observing injustice passively). This led us to explore how we might investigate themes of justice via interactive games. Just Play challenged video game developers to consider creative ways to engage themes of justice via gameplay mechanics and story. THE DETAILS

  • Inaugural global competition to ran from December 2023 to early January 2024
  • Finalists and winners  were announced live at an official event at SXSW in March 2024
  • Toolkit provided to entrants to enrich creators’ understanding of various forms of justice.
  • Cinereach may invite certain finalist projects to participate in further workshops with the potential for additional development support. With Just Play, Cinereach hopes to ignite a movement for game developers and players who believe that purposeful, artistically crafted video game entertainment has the potential to positively shift culture and systems.
